The airport that was designed by Calatrava had many shortcomnings, among them a waiting area without a roof (handy in a city with lots of rain) and bad accessibility for the disabled. According to a clause in the contract any expansion to the airport should be designed by Calatrava too, meaning he was set to work on an expansion to solve the problems he himself caused with his original design while again being paid. The expansion was finished in 2011 and cost 29,1 million €.
The following are crude notes and links I have gathered during my research. The information may be in various languages and is being updated during the research process until a full article is written. Any additional information is very welcome.
2 years after Calatraba´s 30 million expansion was completed the roof started leaking.
The contract regarding the design of the Sondica airport (completed 1999) indicates that any expansion should also be designed by Santiago Calatrava.
So in spite of the criticism on his unpractical airport (for example a waiting area in open air for a city with 128 days of rain per annum) the same Calatrava was set to work again on the expansion. He´s such a clever kid!
